Duda Overview

What is Duda?

Founded In 2009, Duda launched their first web builder in 2010, so this company is an old hand in website building. Their headquarters are in Palo Alto, California.

It was started by a few college friends who called themselves “The Dudes.” Originally designed to help small businesses create an online presence, it has since expanded to aid web agencies in building mobile websites.

Duda has over 450,000 business users and has created over 9 million websites. They use Amazon Web Services for secure cloud hosting and their own Global Delivery Network for bandwidth-intensive files like documents and images.

Their dynamic servers optimise content for the type of device that is requesting the content. In layman’s terms, this means that the mobile version of your page will load faster than the desktop version.

Duda even has’ preferred’ status on Google Pagespeed due to their loading speed and is the only website builder that does.

Duda may not be the most well-known web builder on the market. Still, it’s popular with businesses and freelancers. The price tag though is a little higher than most website builders.

So in this Duda review, I’m going to see how much bang you get for your buck by taking you through its interface, features, pricing and customer support.

Are you looking to create your website with a Website Builder?

With Duda, you can create beautiful sites at breakneck speed without compromising on your creativity.

Ease of Use

How Easy is Duda to Use?

Like most web builders, you can sign up for a free trial without entering any payment details. However, you can’t access it from your mobile, so you must sign up using your laptop or PC. You can log in using Google or create an account using an email address.

As it is aimed at web businesses, some additional details need to be added when signing up. Like your company role and information on other websites, you may be imagining. But once you’re signed in, the process becomes a lot easier.

duda editor

Duda gives you a choice of templates that you can then edit by adding images and your own text, creating new pages, or building your own widgets.

Just in case you were wondering, a ‘widget’ in this case isn’t an ingenious device for pouring beer from a can, but an element, that displays information or allows visitors to interact with your site.

There are 98 templates to choose from and ten blank ones that allow for more creative freedom. You can scroll through all of them or filter the options to suit your requirements.

Duda also shows you how your site will look on multiple devices as part of the template preview.

duda editor 2

The drag and drop editor is straightforward to use, but you have to stay within the confines of the template. Try to be too creative, and you may run into problems. Once you’ve personalised your site, it’s ready to be published.

Dudas interface is straightforward to use and doesn’t require any fundamental tech skills. Still, it is also great for web designers that need to create multiple sites within a short time frame.

While anyone can use the site, it’s aimed at freelance web designers and agencies rather than personal users.

Tools and Features

What Are The Features Of Duda?

Duda’s features are geared towards site design rather than marketing. While some website builders like to focus on the business promotion side, Duda is a better option for users who can market themselves.

Personalisation is top of the list, despite having a ridged template layout. There are over 100 font styles to choose from, photo editing and widgets that allow you to create a unique experience for customers visiting your site.

You can install “click to call” and “click to email” buttons, as well as things like maps and social media links.

The dynamic content that you can add is super impressive. You can use your customer’s details to trigger specific pop-ups, messages and promotions. These can be based on the number of times they’ve visited your site. Their physical location and even more general triggers like the time of day or time of year they visit.

Duda also offers a selection of apps that can access even in the cheapest package. Some of the apps are free, but some you will have to pay extra for. These include logo builders, form creations, events scheduling, appointment scheduling and more.

duda app store

Duda has an unusual approach to eCommerce. Instead of tailoring a high-cost package just for comms, you can add it to any package for an extra annual (or monthly) cost.

The additional cost gets you over 30 payment options, tax calculations, low stock notifications, coupon codes and more, depending on your budget.

Duda does offer free SSL, but you will need to install it (although the process is straightforward). Google Page Speed optimisation is a great feature, as well as customisable titles.

These tools can help you with search engine optimisation. Still, when you compare these to the SEO of some other website builders, they seem pretty basic.

duda analytics

There are some marketing features available on all but the basic package. However, while they do touch on analytics, they concentrate on branding rather than actual marketing.

You can give your clients access to a limited dashboard version and set restrictions on what changes they can make for freelance website designers.

Duda is pretty popular with businesses and freelancers who build sites for clients. The white label products make it easy for designers to present their work through Duda and retain their branding.

All of Dudas’s plans come with automatic and manual backup.

Plans and Pricing

How Much Does Duda Cost?

Duda offers three different-priced plans and a 14-day free trial. They also give you the option to pay monthly or annually. By opting to pay annually, you can save yourself 25%.

duda pricing

The cheapest plan is the Basic at $14 a month when charged annually (that’s an initial charge of £118.72) or $19 (£13.43) if you choose to pay monthly.

Duda isn’t lying when they say this plan is basic; you get one website hosted on Amazon Web Services and email support. The one website you can build does include HTTPS encryption, multi-language capabilities, access to their app store and image library.

The mid-range plan is called Team and is charged at $22 per month, and you pay for the year (£186.56 upfront) or $29 (£20.49) per month if you pay monthly. If you want to take advantage of the free trial, this is the package that you will have access to.

Added to the basic features, you get chat and phone support. You can also assign unique permissions (up to 4 members), add custom branding and other client management tools.

The next plan is the Agency at $44 per month when paid for upfront (that’s a £373.13 initial outlay) or $59 (£41.69) per month to pay monthly. Stepping up from the Team plan, you get access to ten team members and priority email, chat, and phone support.

Other add-ons include more advanced tools like creating custom widgets, dynamic pages, and Dudas Application Programming Interface access.

Duda also offers a custom plan called ‘Let’s Talk’ that provides more management options and 24/7 dedicated support. This plan is not attached to a price, so I can only assume it is for people with a larger budget.

They don’t offer an eCommerce plan, but you can buy add-ons for this purpose. They are also either charged monthly or annually.

The cost of these add-ons is $87 (£61.48) annually or $8 (£5.80) per month for 100 products, $231 (£163.27) annually or $22 (£16) per month for 2500 products and $468 (£330.78) $49 (£36) per month for unlimited products.

Help & Support

How Good is Duda Support?

Duda offers customer support via email with all their packages. All but the basic plan come with a chat option and telephone support. While email support is usually sufficient, I’m a big fan of being able to talk to a person.

You are also provided with a usual array of helpful articles on Duda’s support page. You can search for help with a specific problem or browse the sections to find what you need.

A ‘popular articles’ heading at the top of the page brings up articles that other users currently find helpful.

Other topics include; getting started, going live, billing, website builder, widgets and FAQs. You can also use their resource center to access things like webinars and updates.

duda support

Dudas chat option is not a live chat but a chatbot, so you’ll have to keep your questions simple and stick to FAQs. Although they do offer telephone support, they don’t list any numbers on their website.

You can schedule a sales call, email the sales team, or current customers can request a contact by filling in a contact request form.

As priority customer support and telephone support are part of their higher-paid packages, it’s not surprising that their number isn’t easily accessible.

Many customers praise Duda for their immediate support and excellent customer service staff.

Pros & Cons

What We Like & Dislike About Duda

Duda Cons

Costly this web builder is definitely among the pricier ones and made for people generating a fair amount of income from their site.

Limited templates
Dudas 100 or so templates seem like a limited selection compared to several website builders on the market.

Confusing if you go out of bounds
some users have reported that the site can become confusing and complicated if you try and go outside the limits of the templates.

Final Thoughts

Do We Recommend Duda?

Duda’s focus is undoubtedly on website design rather than providing marketing tools. While Duda does offer analytics and social media features, it’s not necessarily their main attraction.

Suppose you need help with SEO, cross-marketing or customer analytics. In that case, there are other website builders out there that may cater to your needs more efficiently.

Its target market seems to be website design companies and freelancers rather than personal users. That being said, individuals that have used the site for personal projects still leave positive reviews.

So maybe give it a go-to to see if its features suit you enough to make it worth the price. Not forgetting their add-on eCommerce plans that might suit you if you want to sell products online.

If you’re unsure whether they are the right builder for you, you can always take advantage of their 14 days free trial before committing.

Being at the pricier end of the market, I would say that Duda is primarily for business use rather than personal. They are defiantly not the right website builder for your side hustle.

These guys are serious about creating fast, professional websites quickly and efficiently. The price tag alone shows you that these websites generate revenue for everyday use, not for small or part-time businesses that want an online presence.

So if you’re a business looking for a builder which allows you to create websites quickly with a good level of personalisation within a template,” The Dudes” abide.
