What is GoDaddy Website Builder?
GoDaddy was founded in 1997 as Jomax Technologies. They changed their name on a whim in 1999 to GoDaddy, as BigDaddy wasn’t available as a domain name. Initially based in Baltimore, their headquarters are now in Arizona. Founder Bob Parsons came out of retirement to launch the company three years after selling his financial software services company for $65 million.
To say they are a bit of a juggernaut may be an understatement. In 2005 they became the largest online registrar that is ICANN-accredited (that’s the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, in case you were wondering).
By 2018 they were the world’s largest web host with over 62 million registered domains.
In 2012 they started their rise to internet domain-ation (excuse the pun) with their first acquisition.
By 2020, they had acquired 19 other companies, including several different domain name registry services.
While still primarily a web host and domain registrar, they branched into website design with their ADI-powered builder. This provided people with a quick and easy way to get a website up and running. Their business now covers domain registry, web hosting, IT consulting and SSL certification.
With all this weight behind them, I have high expectations for their web builder. They market it as beginner-friendly, quick, easy and perfect for anyone who wants to publish a simple site in minutes.
GoDaddy’s relatively new version of their website builder, called Websites + Marketing, launched in 2019. Although their previous builder (GoCentral) had a much catchier name, their new builder claims to offer more when it comes to the marketing of your site. This is aimed at small businesses that want to improve their online visibility.
In this review, I’ll explore if and how GoDaddy have fared in their endeavor. I shall look at how easy it is to use, its features and pricing structures. There are also a pros and cons list at the end if you want to skip the details.
Ease of Use
How Easy is GoDaddy Website Builder to Use?
If the speed of setup is what you’re after, then look no further. As long as you’re not fussed about individuality, you can start adding content to your website in about thirty seconds.
You can sign up via Facebook, Google, or email, then select a category and site name. The ADI interface then presents you with a site that is ready to go. All without even verifying your email, let alone entering any payment details!
From there, you can start customising the font, colours and adding a few personal touches. If you already have a domain name through GoDaddy, you can link it to your website, and if you have one through someone else, you can still connect it! If you don’t have one, you can buy one from GoDaddy for around 99p for your first year and £11.99 a year after that.
This website builder is designed to be easy to use, everything is laid out and simple to understand. Their iPhone app offers all the same options as the desktop version, and so you can set up your site just as easily on your phone as on your PC.
This builder is perfect for even the most ardent technophobe. Some may find the design elements a little limiting. Should you want complete personalisation of design, you may come away disappointed.
The GoDaddy web builder aims at small businesses increasing their online presence, and I think it does cater to this. The ADI creates a template in seconds, and the editor is straightforward to use. If you have opted for a package that includes SEO, you even get suggestions for keywords to include in your content.
The focus here is very much on the marketing side rather than the site itself. GoDaddy doesn’t seem to want to hide from this fact but embrace it. If you want a complex site setup with high levels of personalisation, then this is not the web builder for you.
Tools and Features
What Are The Features Of GoDaddy Website Builder?
GoDaddy has forgone any intricate website design tools to concentrate its efforts on marketing. The templates can come across as less appealing than some other web builders, and the options are a little limited if that’s what you’re after. You might feel like the sleek, minimalist templates offered start to blur into one.
What they lack in design flexibility they more than makeup for with and a multitude of marketing features. You can link to your social media pages, and their content creator helps you with posts, as well as email marketing and blogging tools.
GoDaddy has said they are working on more options to integrate your social media with your GoDaddy website. From the standard package upward, GoDaddy will also automatically optimise your site for the top search engines. Their SEO wizard asks you a few questions about your target market and then suggests keywords to help your site rank higher.
Another great feature is GoDaddy Insight, designed to use data to help you achieve your business goals. It will provide you with a score that tells you how your website compares to similar sites and then give you an action plan to improve your score and give you details to help you keep track of how you’re doing. It even takes into account social media and email marketing.
Depending on what package you choose, there are some great appointment tools available. Even the cheapest packages allow your site visitors to book one-off appointments. The more expensive ones have more options, including booking recurring appointments and sending reminders via email and text.
There are cross-marketing tools available with all the packages, with a focus on email and social media. However, only the most expensive plan delivers eCommerce tools, including discount and promotional features and shipping and payment options.
The auto-save feature may be a simple one, but I think you’ll agree invaluable, and therefore worth mentioning.
Plans and Pricing
How Much Does GoDaddy Website Builder Cost?
GoDaddy offers four plans. Each gives you one month for free, but there’s no information on what happens after that if you don’t choose a plan.
The packages don’t include a domain name. While it’s priced as monthly installments, they are billed annually. So I’ve included the annual price in my breakdowns.
The Basic package is £6.99 per month. That’s an annual payment of £83.88, which isn’t bad. Including the domain name, you’d still only be paying £95.87 after the first year. Included is an SSL certificate, mobile editing, 24/7 support, marketing guidance and analytics. You also get a link to 1 social media platform, five social media posts from your dashboard, and 100 emails per month.
The next package up is the Standard at £9.99 per month (£119.88 a year). It has everything the basic package has, plus search engine optimisation, access to 3 media platforms, 20 social posts and 500 marketing emails per month. If you are a small business, it’s worth the extra £36 per year for SEO alone.
The Premium package comes in at £14.99 per month (£179.88 annually). For the extra £60 per year, you get 25,000 marketing emails a month, can link to an unlimited number of social media platforms and can post to them as much as you like. Your site visitors can also book recurring appointments, group events, pay for appointments, and receive email and text reminders for upcoming bookings.
If you want to sell your products, your only choice is the eCommerce package at £19.99 a month. That’s an initial outlay of £239.88 and £251.87 per year if you add a GoDaddy domain. As you get your first month free, you can assess whether it’s worth the price before committing.

Help & Support
How Good is GoDaddy Website Builder Support?
They have a phone number right there on the homepage! Before you’ve even started to create your site, they’ve already given you their digits and are signalling “call me!”.
I’m usually scrolling to the bottom of the page for a ‘contact us’ section and then clicking through all the different options before I even see a contact number. So we’re off to a good start, but do they follow through?
As well as telephone support, they do have a knowledge base area on their website that can answer most FAQs. It includes video tutorials that help with your site setup, but you won’t find much help with specific issues. So what if you’ve got a problem that isn’t covered there?
While most web builders seem to want, you to try to find a solution before contacting them. GoDaddy appears to encourage you to talk to a customer service representative actively. All of GoDaddy’s plans offer 24/7 phone support as well as an online live chat.
Most customers who call GoDaddy have reported that they solved their problem quickly and found the support staff knowledgeable and helpful.
As their web builder is so easy to use and navigate, I can’t imagine you’d have many reasons to call them in the first place. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know that you can speak to a real person should any issues arise.
Pros & Cons
What We Like & Dislike About GoDaddy Website Builder
GoDaddy Website Builder Cons
Not much creative freedom – The templates can look repetitive, and all seem to be of a similar style.
Without losing your content, you can’t switch themes – so maybe explore multiple options before populating the site.
If you want to sell items – you have to pay for the most expensive plan.
What Are The Alternatives To GoDaddy Website Builder?
Do We Recommend GoDaddy Website Builder?
GoDaddy is defiantly best suited for users who want a quick, basic website with tools to help them reach new customers. Its ADI builder and simple user interface make setting up a decent site a very straightforward process. However, it does lack a high level of personalisation.
It is marketed at small businesses and sole traders. Still, if you intend on selling products online, you’ll have to go for the most expensive price plan.
Their eCommerce package is the only one that enables you to sell goods through your website. So there’s a chance you might be able to find a cheaper option out there that delivers the same service.
Although with that said, the free month trial will give you a real insight into whether the package is worth the money.
With appointments features included in all the packages, it seems to be aimed at people selling a service rather than a product. If you’re a yoga instructor who wants to provide online classes and optimise your marketing strategies with helpful analytics, then GoDaddy made this builder for you.
However, suppose you’re after a site for personal blogging. In that case, other ones on the market may meet your needs more efficiently.
Their marketing tools are probably the selling point of this website builder. Rather than the actual website design, so if that is what you’re after, you should give it a go, daddy!
