InMotion Overview
What Is InMotion?
InMotion Hosting is a US-based company first founded in 2001. The culture at InMotion Hosting is described as ‘an honest desire to see your business succeed and grow.’
InMotion Hosting offers an incredible complete suite of flexible interconnected, open-source digital products and infrastructure technologies such as UltraStack, cloud computing and website hosting.
Currently, their products are used by thousands of small to enterprise-level business customers.
They provide shared hosting, WordPress Hosting, Managed VPS, Cloud VPS, Domain Names, and more.
Next year will be their 20th year in the market. After this impressive milestone, we came into this review expecting big things.
This comprehensive InMotion hosting review will go into exactly how well they’ve performed across their near 20-year history.
I’ll be using this review to cover all the essential elements of a good web hosting service, including speed, reliability, features, price point, customer support, and some very interesting pros and cons.

Speed & Reliability
How Fast Is InMotion?
For the average business today, speed and accessibility are becoming more critical to hosting providers than ever.
Interestingly, there is little information across InMotion Hosting’s website about its promise of page speed. This is never a good sign, and our research found that the page speed time was disappointing.
InMotion Speed Test
Unfortunately, InMotion’s average page loading time of 538 ms isn’t awe-inspiring compared to other hosts on the market. As we all know, ranking websites in Google are becoming more competitive every single day.
We’ve recently learned that speed is also factored into Google’s algorithm for dictating where you’ll appear in the rankings.
SEO strategy is key to any online business. How fast your page loads has one of the most significant impacts on your bottom line, forcing half of your traffic to bounce if it doesn’t load within two seconds.
Load Impact & Stress Test Results
We didn’t just stop at page load times. We carried out a full stress impact test on K6 (formerly known as Load Impact) using 50 Virtual Users to see how quickly the server can respond as visitors increase.
InMotion K6 Stress Test Results
You can see that even at a peak load of 50 virtual users, the average response time remained at 135 ms. This is slightly confusing. It appears that InMotions servers are stable, but why are initial page loading times so slow? This is a huge miss for InMotion Hosting.
InMotion Shared Hosting Uptime
Again, when assessing the uptime, InMotion Hosting doesn’t provide its data or guarantees, which is an exciting point for users. Without wanting to sound too negative, it is unusual that they don’t share this information.
As we’ve learned with Google’s algorithm changes and the effects of page speed, the impact of uptime is also critical to a successful online business. From our research, InMotion Hosting does score 99.99% over the last six months consistently.
This is interesting to note when more UK-based businesses request better transparency on speed and uptime when choosing a provider. We can’t understand why this information is not more accessible on their website.
Pricing & Plans
How Much Does InMotion Cost?
InMotion Hosting currently offers a wide range of hosting options. There are three options to assess for their shared hosting: Lite, Launch, Power, and Pro.
The best part about this is that each plan is incredibly different to ensure the needs of their customers are met.
It ensures no matter where you are on your business journey. There is an option for a beginner right through to an advanced agency professional.
InMotions Shared Hosting Plans
For Launch, this sets you up for £4.48 per month. Included in this plan, you’ll get a free domain, up to two websites, 50 GB SSD Storage and impressive unlimited bandwidth. Additionally, you will receive ten email addresses, free SSL, access to their security suite, and marketing tools.
The next jump up is Power which also starts at £4.48 per month. Included in this plan, you’ll get a free domain, up to 50 websites, 100 GB SSD Storage, impressive unlimited bandwidth and 50 email addresses (a considerable jump from the launch plan). Additionally, free SSL and, finally, access to their security suite and their marketing tools.
What Out For Renewal Costs
However, as we’ve seen before with other hosts, this is a clever marketing technique. Though the initial price term seems low, the ‘Power’ plan will cost you £11.50 per month on renewal, and considerably more than the renewal rate of £7.90 with the ‘Launch’ plan.
Finally, the most superior option is Pro which starts at £10.70 per month. This plan includes a free domain, up to 100 websites, 200 GB SSD Storage, impressive unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email addresses, free SSL, and finally, access to their security suite. Their marketing tools, and Pro Support, which guarantees guarantees guarantees 99.99% uptime for your website.
This range in price makes InMotion pretty affordable. However, how does it rank in comparison to its competitors?

Help & Support
So, How About InMotions Support?
Customer support levels can be the difference between a good web provider and a very poor one. Something every business can’t go without, and InMotion makes some big promises in this space. They provide 24-hour support, seven days a week, 365 days a year, which is a great feature.
Community Support Forum
InMotion has great support with plenty of resources to help you with your site
They offer support access across telephone and live chat services. The beauty of this level of customer support is that it is clear that InMotion Hosting has researched this space well.
They’ve understood the needs of their customers and the importance of accessible real-time support.
So many other hosting providers in this space do not do enough to counteract these kinds of issues. In today’s online world, we can’t look past this impressive feature.

Features & Products
What Features & Services Do InMotion Offer?
We’ve already listed out quite a few (of the many) features on InMotion Hosting so far. However, let’s go back a few steps and drill down to what should be the essential features for a new business that has never used a service like this before.
InMotion Shared Hosting Features & Comparison
Main Features | Lite | Launch | Power | Pro |
Websites | 1 | 2 | 50 | 100 |
Storage | 10 GB | 50 GB | 100 GB | 200 GB |
Bandwidth | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Free Domain Name | ✖︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ |
Free SSL Certificate | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ |
Daily Backups | ✔︎ | ✖︎ | ✖︎ | ✖︎ |
24/7 customer service | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ |
Money back guarantee | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ | ✔︎ |
The plan and pricing structure are incredibly reasonable. Each step between launch, power and pro makes a jump without heavily inflating the cost or commitment.
In particular, the launch plan is one of the best plans we’ve seen for a beginner’s web hosting platform. The benefit of having unlimited bandwidth is excellent for an entry-level product.
InMotions cPanel interface is fairly easy to use
Secondly, InMotion Hosting has thought a lot about its customer service. 24/7 customer service is hugely impressive.
This is a great assurance for a new business or someone who isn’t confident working across a new platform. If you ever get stuck or need support quickly, there is help available.
Security & Protection
How Secure Is InMotion?
One of the most impressive parts of InMotion Hosting is how much effort has been put into security across their platform. Not only this but the fact that a high level of security features is included across all plans (even the entry-level ones).
As we know, when security across a web service breaks down or is victim to a hack or breach, the whole business can break down.
The long-term effects of a security breach can damage brand perception, trust and transparency with customers.
InMotion Hosting has recognised the challenges UK business faces and created a security system and promise that addresses precisely what customers want.
Plenty Of Security Options
With many preventative measures, InMotion Hosting provides the following security features to their customers:
These types of features are not openly seen in other web hosting services. I think it’s clear to see that InMotion has got security down to a fine art – and one that has no chance of being stolen!

Pros & Cons
What We Like & Dislike About InMotion
InMotion Pros
Affordable – Their entry-level plan is excellent to get you started. You’ll get a free domain, up to two websites, 50 GB SSD Storage, impressive unlimited bandwidth, ten email addresses and free SSL, access to their security suite, and marketing tools.
Site Uptime – InMotion Hosting consistently scores 99.9%.
Customer service – As mentioned, their 24/7 and 365-day approach to providing customer service is completely unrivaled. This is a great selling point for those who are not confident and want to feel supported if issues arise.
90-day money-back guarantee – They’ll refund you if you are unhappy with their service after 90 days of using them. No questions asked. The industry standard is typically 30 days, so this feature is quite a good selling point for InMotion Hosting.
InMotion Cons
Cheaper alternatives – There will always be more affordable alternatives for hosting and while looking for the best website host on the market. With such a competitive space, I think InMotion Hosting has addressed many concerns UK business owners have had over their hosting sites. But do fall a little short after only offering three versions.
Website functionality – Overall, the client panel of InMotion Hosting is quite challenging to navigate. Compared to other web hosting providers such as GoDaddy, which has a very clear dashboard with product information, we found ourselves searching their site for answers. Not a significant concern but something to consider.
Pricing increase – The levels of pricing can jump relatively high from level to level. Depending on your initial investment, you may find yourself quickly changing plans to allow for more features.
Website language – This may sound like a strange thing to call out, but I think this is important for beginners to understand. InMotion Hosting has an obvious market.
If you are new to web hosting services, you may find their website language quite ‘expert’ or ‘niche.’ This may turn you off from wanting to move forward with their services. For example, we spent a lot of time going through the security features list going through their terminology. They’ve assumed a level of knowledge from their audience, so this would be tough if you are a beginner.
What Are The Alternatives To InMotion?
Hostinger Best for cheap pricing
Bluehost Best For Beginners
A2 Hosting Fastest Shared Hosting
HostGator Great value option
GreenGeeks Best “Green” Hosting
Final Thoughts
Do We Recommend InMotion?
So far, our overall experience in understanding InMotion Hosting has been positive. InMotion Hosting performs exceptionally well in two significant areas of uptime and customer support.
Furthermore, it is also worth noting that standard industry practice for money-back guarantees typically falls around the 30-day mark. But not for InMotion Hosting.
They’re so confident in their service that they provide up to 90 days of business, VPS, and reseller hosting plans.
This is quite a great offer compared to their competitors (for shared hosting options, they only offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.)
However, if you are UK based user, there are better options out there for you.
