Overview

What is Namecheap Domains?

Namecheap provides domain names cheaply! This budget-friendly company is an ICANN accredited registrar based in Arizona. It currently manages around 10 million domains and definitely lives up to its name.

namecheap domains review landing page

They were founded in 2000 by Richard Kirkendall, and in 2013 started to accept bitcoin as a method of payment. In 2019 Namecheap was one of the companies that petitioned ICANN not to remove the price caps on .org and .info.

Unfortunately, ICANN chose not to listen to this request. Namecheap holds domain name affordability as one of its core values, believing that having a personalised domain and a website should not be considered a luxury.

This is especially true today, as many businesses would have failed without an online presence during 2020. They are a top-rated company, and you will see their name come up time and again when searching for the best domain registrars.

They have great deals, as well as low renewal costs, so they are indispensable if you want to bag yourself a bargain.
Their commitment to low prices and their no-nonsense approach is what is appealing about this registrar.

In this review, we will take a deeper look at Namecheap, check out their interface, domain extensions availability, pricing, customer support, and extras to find out.

Ease of Use

Is Namecheap’s Interface Easy to Use?

Namecheap is highly user-friendly. Their homepage has a domain name search box and a toggle which allows you to switch from search to transfer. In addition, they give you the option to set filters on your name searches, such as price, keywords, and a lot more besides.

You can search for specific Top Level Domains (TLD’s) from the 480+ that are available, or you can choose a few from a list of the most popular to refine your search.

Alternatively, you can browse through them all. Namecheap lists them with the price clearly displayed, making it easy to scan quickly and grab yourself a bargain.

Results come in alphabetical order, so you may have to do a bit of scrolling. Still, the prices are all there for easy comparison. Most of their TLDs are offered with discounts, like 40% off for two years, special offers, and cut-price rates for the first year.

They are very transparent about cost, with the renewal price displayed under the discounted first-year rate. In addition, some TLDs are sold at a low cost with no inflated renewal.

So even if they appear to be more expensive than other domain registrars, they will save you money in the long run.

Their interface is straightforward to use. You just add what you want to your cart, select any add-ons you need, and create an account to set up payment. You can easily find and pay for your domain in less than 15 minutes.

Domain Extensions

Domain Extensions Availability

The Top Level Domain is the suffix of your website address. Namecheap has over 489 TLDs to choose from, all displayed in alphabetical order for you to browse.

You can choose to search for specific ones, but there are some on there that you might not have thought about, and with up to 97% off selected TLDs, you can find some great deals. With offers like that, it may be worth spending some time browsing before you make a final decision.

They offer industry-specific TLDs, like .accountants or .cleaning, as well as the more common .com or .co.UK. If you want to get a bit creative, you can have colours like .gold or .blue, or location-based TLDs such as .london.

When choosing your TLD, you should consider what you want from your domain name, as well as the price. For example, you may get one that sounds great, but that is hard to find if you need people to discover your site using search engines.

If your perfect name is taken, Namecheap will let you contact the current owner to see if it’s for sale. You can also browse new TLDs and conduct a bulk domain search or transfer your existing domain

For example, you can transfer a .CO.UK for free or a .COM for £6.18. They have a comprehensive list of TLD transfer prices on their website, so you can find out pretty quickly if it’s worth transferring your domain to them.

Is your Domain Name already taken?

If your perfect name is taken, Namecheap has a Whois domain tool checker so you contact the owner to see if it is up for sale!
