What Is Namecheap?
Cast your mind back twenty years ago. It’s the year 2000, the internet is fast becoming the giant we all know and love, and Namecheap’s CEO Richard Kirkendall was ready for where the world was heading.
He was on a mission from that moment on to help bridge the gap between technology and people by making it easy, accessible and available for all.
Today Namecheap, according to Inc. 5000, is one of the fastest-growing American companies. It has become clear that after celebrating nearly two decades of providing unparalleled levels of service across multiple industries that Namecheap is on an upwards projection.
With over 10 million domains under management, you cannot argue with those facts. Today Namecheap remains among the top domain registrars and web hosting providers globally, despite the heavy competition in this space.
The Namecheap Mission
So what makes Namecheap a better website host? They have a clear mission and are built for a reason. What is that reason? Well, it is their people. They claim that while the internet is built on computers and servers, it is nothing without its people.
Browsing, typing, texting, researching, uploading, contributing and more, the people bring this to life.
In today’s global market, having an online presence isn’t just a nice thing to have; it’s a necessity. Namecheap calls this a fundamental right for all.
This Namecheap hosting review will go into exactly how well that mission and vision have fared. Here’s a transparent look at how Namecheap has performed over the last six months.
Speed & Reliability
How Fast Is Namecheap?
From what we know today, the ‘speed test’ for any online business remains critical. While there any many websites you can use to test the speed of your site, such as Google Page Speed, GTmetrix and Uptime Robot, we know that Namecheap has big promises in this space.
Across their blog, they offer advice on how to check your speed across your site.
This provides a valuable and transparent space for website owners to do their own checks.
They claim that a good rule of thumb to go with is that if the tool indicates that your website takes 3 seconds or less to load, you’re in good shape. If it takes longer, it’s worth investigating the root cause.
Namecheap Speed Test
When analysing our research from our test site on their overall speed, Namecheap has been able to post an average page speed of 601 ms over the past six months. Not slow, but by no means the fastest on the market.
Load Impact & Stress Test Results
We didn’t just stop at page load times. We carried out a full stress impact test on K6 (formerly known as Load Impact) using 50 Virtual Users to see how quickly the server can respond as visitors increase.
Namecheap K6 Stress Test Results
You can see that even at a peak load of 50 virtual users, the average response time remained at 440 ms.
Aside from a single spike at around 20 virtual users, the response time held steady during the entire stress test. That’s not a bad result when it comes to server performance.
However, the were some HTTP failures (not the highest we’ve seen). This means that while our server could maintain a small website, we would be skeptical that it would handle a larger website with high traffic.
You can address this by installing a WordPress caching plugin. However, if your web server is slow, even this won’t make much of a difference.
Namecheap Shared Hosting Uptime
Namecheap, as opposed to some of its competitors, offers an ‘Uptime Guarantee.’ Essentially, they claim that if they fail to meet this guarantee on uptime due to an ‘internal infrastructure or equipment failure,’ you will be eligible for a service cycle prolongation.
So, this in itself is pretty impressive. The maximum Service cycle prolongation given may be one (1) month of free hosting. There is only one small catch where you could be caught out.
The amount of ‘downtime’ must be confirmed by a Support Team member from Namecheap and not by your admission.
Namecheap promises a 100% uptime guarantee, which is as good as it gets. However, our research shows that Namecheap’s shared hosting has come in at 99.98% over the last six months. So yes, indeed, they do have a good uptime, but not necessarily all the time.
Pricing & Plans
How Much Does Namecheap Cost?
As the name suggests, if you are looking for affordability, Namecheap may meet your budget expectations. As an overview, you get some impressive value-for-money features and options with Namecheap.
To break down each plan and its inclusions, we’ve looked at how UK businesses owners should best make their judgment.
Namecheaps Shared Hosting Plans
Across their plans and pricing structure, they offer guidance against online beginners, small businesses, and large businesses, which provides a unique way of selecting the most appropriate plan for your business.
For this review, we’ve included the most comparable plans across each structure. It is important to note, what we’ve learned is that Namecheap offers the most comprehensive plans.
For some, this is a real positive, and it gives you the ability to find a plan most suited for you.
You can pick and choose what matters across what type of business you have. However, this structure won’t work for everyone. It also creates a lot of choices so if you are new to web hosting. This could be a real turn-off if you don’t already know what you need.
Further to this, what we’ve also noticed is that Namecheap runs some excellent sales quite regularly.
Our best advice is to do your research before committing to a plan. It could be worth waiting for a sale if you can snap up a great plan on an even better discount.
For ‘Online Beginners,’ you’ve been described best as those who are looking to set up a personal website, WordPress blog or simple business landing page.
For this group, there are two main options, ‘Stellar‘ and ‘Stellar Plus.’
A Variety Of Shared Hosting Options
For Stellar, at a measly £1.13 per month, you can host up to three websites with the CMS of your choice. This plan also includes a free Website Builder and email solution.
The next step up is Stellar Plus, which is a minimal cost at only £1.92 per month. Across this, you can host as many websites as you like while enjoying unmetered storage, unlimited bandwidth, and automatic backups.
This was when we started to believe that Namecheap was, as the name suggests, dirt cheap.
For ‘Small Business,’ there is a similar pricing plan and structure available. For a small business, this is ideal for those who consider themselves a ‘solopreneur,’ eCommerce specialist or web developer looking to add more power and speed to your company website.
Plans For E-commerce & Small Business
For their ‘Stellar Business’ plan, this will set you back £3.44 per month. Across this plan, you can power your business with unmetered bandwidth and free automatic backups. Your web hosting is also PCI compliant to suit a variety of e-commerce solutions.
There is also the ‘Nebula‘ option available at £14.25 per month. This option provides complete hosting to your clients as if you were the web hosting provider. It also fully supports the WHMCS billing platform and much more.
Lastly, for ‘Large Business’ this is perfect for websites that demand the highest pLastly, for ‘Large Business,’ this is perfect for websites that demand the highest performance yet want to enjoy flexibility and security with exclusive access to every resource.
Across this structure, there is ‘EasyWP Supersonic‘ at the cost of £8.52 per month. This plan is powered by Namecheap’s cloud platform, where you can effectively host your WordPress website with up to 500k visitors per month. Finally, it includes a reasonable 100 GB of storage.
So Namecheap offer some good hosting options at reasonable prices, but how do they stack to their competitors?

Help & Support
How Good Is Namecheaps Support?
Customer support levels can be the difference between a good web provider and a very poor one. Something every business can’t go without, and Namecheap, like their competitors, makes some big promises in this space.
First, there is the ‘Namecheap Support Centre.’ Across this platform, there are several tools you can take advantage of.
Namecheaps help centre offers plenty of resources
It would be rare that you wouldn’t find the answer to your question on their ‘resources’ website. They seem to have everything covered, and they’ve got how-to videos, blogs, live chat and FAQs to help you as much as possible.
While they don’t offer telephone support (which for some will be a massive downside), they do a great job of creating helpful resources in one place.
Features & Products
What Are The Features & Services Like?

Secondly, troubleshooting and customer support hold twenty years of knowledge resources.

Security & Protection
Is My Website Secure With Nameheap?
For any business owner, it’s essential to understand that the web can be a dangerous place. Identity thieves and other security and data breaches are happening worldwide and attacking businesses more and more. It’s not only your business that can be compromised, but also your customers.
Protecting Your Data
That’s why Namecheap offers two main channels of security: WhoisGuard service to WhoisGuard domain owners and a wide variety of SSL certificates to protect your site’s visitors.
WhoisGuard is a privacy protection service that keeps domain owners’ contact info out of the public Whois database.
So if you run a business where data collection and content are crucial to your business, this is a massive benefit. WhoisGuard plans are very affordable, and you get one year free with every domain registration or transfer.
Great security options across all Namecheaps plans
Secondly, Namecheap also has a range of SSL certificates. These are the best way to protect your site’s customers against identity theft. Namecheap’s wide range of SSL products available should satisfy most UK business owners.
There are two main options, but Namecheap also makes many other promises in this space.
This includes industry-leading support. Options include single to multi-use domains, personal privacy protection through Namecheap’s VPN service and, of course, items such as two-factor authentication. This provides that extra layer of account protection.
Pros & Cons
What We Like & Dislike About Namecheap
Pricing increase – The levels of pricing can jump relatively high from level to level. Depending on your initial investment, you may find yourself quickly changing plans to allow for more features.
Support – Although they’ve got great resources online, nothing can beat talking to a ‘real human’ when you are desperate for troubleshooting.
What Are The Alternatives To Namecheap?
Do We Recommend Namecheap?
In conclusion, it is clear that Namecheap offers excellent value with its shared hosting in particular. Still, we found speeds to be disappointing with the starter plan.
I guess you could say you get what you pay for. As we’ve made clear, this is your best hosting option if the price is your concern.
But if you do need premium faster service, then you should probably look elsewhere.
Other than that, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee period. So if you are still unsure once you sign up, we’d recommend spending as much of that time as possible confirming Namecheap is fast enough for you.
