Who Are SiteGround?
Founded in 2004, SiteGround is a Bulgarian website host responsible for hosting over 2 million domains worldwide.
In addition to web hosting services, SiteGround also offers WordPress hosting, WooCommerce hosting and cloud hosting. Meaning they have hosting packages for any kind of website – whether big or small, high-budget or low-budget.
One of the characteristics that distinguish SiteGround from its competitors is renting its servers from the Google Cloud. This improves network speed, in addition to a guaranteed renewable energy match, in which Google “matches 100% of the energy consumed by the operations with renewable energy”.
Nice one, SiteGround.
Endorsed By WordPress
Officially recommended by WordPress, a world-leading software for website building, SiteGround has an excellent reputation for building and hosting successful websites.
SiteGround is fully recommended by WordPress
Cloud hosting also allows for easy hosting management, storing all data in one place, with powerful resources available to manage multiple cloud accounts at once.
SiteGround states that cloud hosting enables “easy scaling for growing businesses.” offering an auto-scale option, which can help in providing more resources when needed.
This means that your hosting is covered when operations are running smoothly and when, inevitably, hiccups occur too.
So relax! SiteGround have you covered.
Unique & Cutting Edge Technology
This sense of autopilot, stress-free web hosting is also seen in the AI technology SiteGround developed to prevent cyber-attacks on your site.
They state that their technology prevents over 5 million attacks per day, which is pretty impressive and pretty reassuring.
Another autopilot feature offered by SiteGround is static caching, working in the background to speed up your site by managing the cache time of resources.
Speed & Reliability
How Fast Are SiteGround’s Servers?
The best web hosting servers are often called ‘the best’ due to their speed. Fast loading time is central to any successful website, in fact, more than central – essential.
Nowadays, there is so much online competition, with millions of websites fighting for attention and exposure. So if your site’s load time is slow, you might as well hang up your coat and call it a day.
SiteGround Speed Test
It’s good to remember that any web host provider featured in a ‘top website hosting’ list will be fast. Often so fast that you don’t even have time to notice the page loading.
But, if we review and compare different hosting providers, it’s good to ascertain which provider is the fastest. So, how does SiteGround rank?
From our research, its load time (meaning, quite simply, the length of time the page takes to load) sits at 671 ms, which – if you couldn’t tell – is pretty fast.
Load Impact & Stress Test Results
However, when measuring the speed of a hosting server, it’s essential to look at more than just its loading time.
To test how SiteGround’s servers would respond with increased traffic, we used a testing tool called K6 (formerly Load Impact) to send virtual users to our test site.
SiteGround K6 Stress Test Results
So we ran a load impact and stress test simulating 50 active visitors over 5 minutes. This tells us if our test site would load as quickly when multiple users are using the site.
Essentially, this chart shows that as the number of visitors increases (the grey line), the page load times stay exceptionally stable at around 90 ms (the blue line). This means that high traffic doesn’t lead to any drop in performance.
SiteGround Shared Hosting Uptime
To understand the importance of uptime, it’s good to ascertain the whole point of using a web host provider.
Web hosts maintain a smooth running of your website, ensuring it is fast, has enough storage space and is safe from cyber-attacks. More importantly – they exist to ensure that your site is always up and running. So it can attract and host visitors. This is uptime.
Uptime is generally measured in percentages, with 100% the best possible score, meaning the site is always up and running. It is a score that most host providers usually miss by around 0.1-0.5%.
For the last six months, our research shows a 100% uptime for SiteGround, which is impressive. So it’s safe to say that SiteGround knows what they are doing when it comes to keeping their servers online.
They also have a guarantee that their uptime will stay at 99.9%, so you can rest easy that when they promise that your site will be up and running, it will stay up and running.
Compared to SiteGround’s numerous competitors, it is one of the best in the game regarding uptime.
Pricing & Plans
Affordable WordPress Hosting Plans
We have all heard the saying ‘money makes the world go around and, unfortunately, it’s true.
Nowadays, everything has a price tag attached to it, whether we are paying extra to take luggage on a plane or exchanging money into foreign cash when you land. Annoying.
The same goes for web host providers; unfortunately, they cost money – some much more than others. The price can vary between as little as 99p and £99 per month, with the latter being somewhat of a ripoff.
Generally, prices for simple website hosting come in at under ten pounds, so using a web host provider really shouldn’t break the bank.
SiteGround’s Shared Hosting Plans
So what’s the damage when it comes to SiteGround? On their most basic plan, which involves hosting for one website, 10 GB of storage space and around 10,000 monthly visits, SiteGround ask for £2.99 a month.
Considering this plan only allows for one website to be hosted, it’s on the pricey side for my money. Still, if you’re only in need of one website to be hosted, this plan could be perfect for you.
With SiteGround, it is undoubtedly a matter of quality over quantity.
The next jump in price is the ‘GrowBig’ plan, described as their most popular plan, at £4.99 a month, with unlimited websites, 20 GB of storage space and approximately 25,000 monthly visits.
Considering this upgrade costs only £2, I can see why it is their most popular plan, as the unlimited number of websites to be hosted is a tempting offer.
SiteGround’s Alternative Hosting Packages
SiteGround offers up a whole range of hosting options alongside their popular shared plans that include: WordPress, WooCommerce and Cloud hosting.
However, many other web host providers offer unlimited websites and unlimited bandwidth for a much lower price.
This means that despite their fast speed, strong uptime and quality features, SiteGround is not the cheapest web host provider on the market. If you are on a budget, maybe consider using another provider.

Help & Support
How Good Is SiteGround’s Support?
With a slightly more expensive web host provider, there are certainly added luxuries that you would expect. The saying’ bang for your buck’ exists for a reason, after all. One of these luxuries is good customer support.
You want to know that the process of spending money on a hosting provider is taken seriously by the company and that you are not just a source of income for them but a valued customer.
Along with uptime and speed, SiteGround also ranks highly for customer support, a good thing, considering they host over 2 million domains worldwide. That would be a lot of unhappy customers.
SiteGround offers great support with plenty of resources to help you out
AI Supported Customer Service
It is SiteGround’s Artificial Intelligence customer support system that sets them apart from their competitors.
This impressive feature means that finding support when faced with an issue is simple. The AI system will troubleshoot what kind of customer support you need based on the nature of the problem presented.
This saves a considerable amount of time and effort, connecting you with the right person to fix your problem without you having to try and explain it to someone beforehand.
This is especially useful for inexperienced people when it comes to hosting, as sometimes the nature of the problem and its potential solution is hard to troubleshoot yourself.
Therefore, having the ability to hand this process over to an AI system prevents you from going down the wrong problem-solving avenues, sorting the issue out effectively – the first time.
Their speed and efficiency exemplify how they intend to invest in the customer; so, if you’re looking for a customer-centric web host provider, look no further.

Easy To Use Control Panel
However, believe it or not, there’s more! SiteGround has multiple tools to increase usability and accessibility for its customers.
In the same breath, they also offer a 1-click installation of WordPress. This means you don’t have to be a tech genius to build a functioning website – all it takes is one click.
SiteGround’s dashboard is easy to use
They have one of the best control panels in the market, which simplifies juggling multiple sites. They even offer the option of installing extra apps onto any of your domains solely by using their marketplace.
This means that, should you want an extra feature here or there, you don’t have to start from scratch with your plan and negotiate new terms and costs.
You can head to the SiteGround marketplace, choose your add-on and enjoy the new feature. Web hosting has never been so easy.
Security & Protection
Is My Website Secure With SiteGround?
All of this discussion is pretty pointless if your site is not secure. Without a strong level of security, every feature of your website is up for grabs by fraudsters.
When deciding to use a web host provider, you have to place a lot of faith in someone else looking after your private data.
The stakes are high, and it’s always good to ascertain that you are choosing a hosting company with multiple security features to put your mind at ease.
SiteGround has put a lot of time and thought into its security features, using multiple security tools to ensure that your data is kept safe.
Firstly, they offer daily backups for every customer – no matter what plan they are on.
This avoids the earth-shattering feeling that (let’s be honest) we have all felt at one point or another, of realising that the work we have spent 4 hours on has just been lost.
SiteGround offers a Free SSL certificate on all their packages
Furthermore, they have a clever SiteGround SiteScanner tool that scans your website for potential viruses and data attacks. This alerts the user of any risks before they have the chance to develop.
Likewise, they offer Cloudflare for free, a software that examines all site traffic to determine which traffic is authentic and which is not. This feature is rare to be a freebie in web hosting, so our advice is to make the most of it.
SG Security Plugin
SiteGround has recently introduced its new SG Security plugin. This is available for free and provides you with an easy way to protect your WordPress site from malicious attacks.
It also includes valuable tools that can help you as a website owner react if there is a suspicion that your site might have been compromised.
If those features aren’t enough to legitimise SiteGround’s security measures, they also use SpamAssassin to sort through your mailbox. This flags up any spam emails to prevent both a build-up of mail and the potential for unsafe emails that could lead to viruses.
To put it simply – launching a cyber-attack on a SiteGround hosted website is going to be about as successful as a toddler sneaking past a bouncer into a nightclub. It is not going to happen.
Pros & Cons
What We Like & Dislike About SiteGround
More expensive than its competitors.
The most basic plan is pretty basic, hosting only one website.
Limited amount of bandwidth available, whereas other providers offer unlimited bandwidth.
The basic plan does not offer a free domain.
What Are The Alternatives To SiteGround?
Do We Recommend SiteGround?
It’s a no-brainer that we recommend SiteGround as one of the best web host providers. Its combination of lightning-fast speed, strong uptime and security and plenty of added features make it hard to knock.
If you’re serious about web hosting, I would be serious about considering using SiteGround. Our only drawback is the slightly inflated price in comparison to other hosting providers.
With this in mind, if your budget is low, you might benefit from choosing another provider. However, expect slower servers, weaker uptimes and fewer features.
Editor & User Ratings
SiteGround is a great hosting solution for your WordPress website, with super stable and secure servers, choosing Siteground for your next project is a no brainer!
