In this digital age, an online presence is becoming a must, not just for big businesses but for individuals trying to promote their services and side hustles.
Wix currently has over 196.7 million subscribers worldwide and have created around 160 million sites, so they must be doing something right!
They have predicted a 29%-30% revenue growth in 2021, so let’s delve into the appeal of this website host and find out if you would like to be part of their growing number of subscribers.
I intend to find out if they live up to the hype. Is this web builder as easy as it seems? In this Wix review, I’ll be looking at the tools and features, plans, and pricing and how helpful the customer support is.
What is Wix?
Wix is an international cloud-based website service with offices in the Middle East, South America, Europe, Canada and the US.
They were founded in Israel in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami and Giora Kaplan. They started as a flash-based website builder (around the same time as Squarespace, Weebly and Jimdo).
Launching globally in 2008, by 2010, they had a user base of 3.5 million. Introducing the HTML5 editor helped the company grow exponentially.
When they went public on the Nasdaq exchange in 2013, they became the largest IPO for an Israeli-based company.
The company currently provides customers with the tools to create HTML5 and mobile websites without the need for coding.
This may be one of the main reasons they (and other similar platforms) have been so successful since people can have control over their content. It is cheaper than paying someone else to create and run a website from scratch.
Customers are, however, still able to insert their own code, which gives an even higher level of control. Wix uses a standard drag-and-drop feature and is the largest of all the web building companies that do so.
Wix uses a dashboard that is easy to navigate
They also showcase many other features, like allowing customers to buy and register their own domain name, providing personalised mailboxes, a logo maker and a customer relationship manager tool that enables businesses to build lasting relationships with customers.
Ease of Use
How Easy is Wix to Use?
Wix is undeniably easy to use. In just a few clicks, you’re choosing your site specifics, and in about a minute, your template can be ready for you to start adding content. You can log in with an email and password or use Google, Apple or Facebook to open your account.
You can even create your website on your phone. To say it is beginner-friendly is an understatement. You can easily have a decent website up and running in an hour.
Does Wix have good templates?
They have hundreds of templates to choose from, covering an extensive array of industries. The downside is that you cannot change your template once selected, so be prepared for a lot of scrolling.
Should I use WIX ADI or Wix editor?
If choosing from one of their 500+ templates seems a little daunting, you can use Wix ADI to design your website for you. Just answer a few questions, and the Wix ADI will present you with a website that you can then edit if you wish.
Wix gives you plenty of options on how much control you have over your website design for those who are more detail-oriented. The sidebar and drag-and-drop features make it incredibly easy and intuitive to use.
Automatic website backups keep your work safe (particularly good for those who frequently forget to hit save).
Intuitive Drag-and-drop interface is simple to use
Users can edit the background, add pages, integrate apps and set up blogs from the home panel. Add-on apps such as Ecwid also give you access to inventory tracking and guest checkouts.
Wix comes highly recommended by its users, and you can see why. It enables businesses and individuals to build professional-looking websites quickly and easily.
Tools and Features
What Are The Features Of Wix?
Wix offers a veritable smorgasbord of features, starting with a large array of elements to construct your website. There is a choice of menus, buttons, boxes, navigation settings and much more besides.
You have complete flexibility in your website design, and there are options for pretty much everything you can think of.
As I mentioned in the introduction, if the amount of choice and freedom is too much for you, you can use Wix’s AI website design tool (Wix ADI) to help you out. Although you will be stuck with the theme you initially chose, so it’s probably worth taking the time to make the right choice for you.
What is Velo on Wix?
If you’re looking for more control instead of less, Velo by Wix allows for an even greater level of editing. For example, you can use Velo to edit the HTML behind your template, providing even more personalisation to those who want it.
Velo by Wix lets you create more advanced websites
Wix offers a ton of industry-specific features too. From menus, online delivery and reservations to audio players, digital art stores and ticket sales.
It provides forums in which visitors can become members and leave comments to connect with your customers. You can even accept appointments from the Wix mobile app and send automatic email reminders and take payments.
Is Wix good for eCommerce?
Wix also offers plenty of excellent eCommerce features such as coupon codes, rules for shipping and tax and customisable email receipts. Their blog editor provides different layout options and allows you to embed images alongside your posts.
They also boast a feature called Repeaters, a simple database that enables you to design a content template for a particular field. Wix will automatically repeat the template for each entry into the database.
Wix offers 100’s of apps in their marketplace
Wix also is linked to an App Market with around 300 apps that extend Wix’s ability to offer even more features (although many of them do come at an extra cost).
It feels like Wix has genuinely thought about the needs of every user and tries to cater to them. However, if you don’t have a clear vision in mind when you create your website, you may feel a bit like a kid in a sweetshop!
Plans and Pricing
How Much Does Wix Cost?
Wix offers four different website packages and three business and eCommerce packages in the UK. Despite the free plan no longer being available, you can get started using the website builder without paying a thing.
This is great if you’re unsure whether Wix is suitable for you, as you can set up a website before committing to a plan. All the packages (including the cheapest) come with 24/7 customer care. Still, only the VIP package gives you priority support for any website issues.
Which Wix plan is best?
The most basic plan is Connect Domain at £3 per month. You get a custom domain, 1 GB of bandwidth, and 500MB of storage for this meager sum. However, you do have to put up with Wix adverts on your website.
The next up is Combo, which Wix recommends for personal use and is priced at £6 per month. This package comes with a custom domain, 2 GB of bandwidth, 3 GB of storage space and no ads.
You can access your domain free for one year, get an SSL certificate and 30 minutes of video hosting as well. They’ve also thrown in a £75 Ad voucher to help you boost your online visibility.
The most popular package is Unlimited at £8.50 per month. You get everything offered with Combo, but with unlimited bandwidth, 10 GB of storage, and an hour of video hosting. You can also access Wix’s site booster and visitor analytics apps.
The most expensive is the VIP package, and at £18 a month, it is quite a jump up in price. VIP provides the same service as the Unlimited, but with 35 GB of storage, 5 hours of video hosting, plus access to professional and social media logo files and prioritised customer care.

Help & Support
How Good is Wix Support?
All of Wix’s packages come with 24/7 customer care, so let’s have a look at how effective it is. For starters, the inherently easy-to-use system doesn’t require much customer support.
The question mark buttons throughout the site open tips and sometimes even tutorial videos to help you navigate your website set up.
Where Do I Ask Questions on Wix?
Trouble-shooting bots and their in-depth help center can help you solve the most common issues.
So it seems that Wix has done as much as possible to avoid you needing to talk to a customer service representative.
They currently don’t have support via live chat, but you can now vote for this feature on their website in their constant efforts to improve, if you feel this is something you would want in the future.
Ask question, browse articles & find answers in the help center
Should you need to contact Wix by phone, you can request a call back via their website by choosing a topic and explaining your issue. Most customers receive a call back within minutes, and Wix offers 24/7 English, Spanish and Portuguese speaking call-backs (other languages have set call-back times).
Customer Service That Cares
When it comes to website construction, it is clear that their customer service is excellent. They seem to care about their customer’s experience genuinely. Their customer service team even tries to reach out privately to customers who leave negative reviews online.
Wix also offers a great deal of freedom before you commit. You can set up your website for free before paying for it, and they give you a 14 day cooling-off period after signing up.
Pros & Cons
What We Like & Dislike About Wix
Hosting is limited – therefore, you cannot export anything created on Wix to an external destination or another host.
You can’t switch templates – after a site is live, so choose wisely.
Too much flexibility – Yes, I know, I included this on the Pros. But let’s face it, this is also a massive con. Too many options mean building your website could become overwhelming.
What Are The Alternatives To Wix?
Do We Recommend Wix?
Yes, we do! The Wix website builder would be best suited to people who want their website up quickly and easily.
It is a good choice for beginners who want fast results that look professional and users with more tech knowledge who want control over their site setup.
The packages offered seem like they are good value for money, and spreading the cost by monthly payments makes it feel more manageable.
The setup is intuitive and easy to use. However, some might find it overwhelming due to the unstructured nature of the drag and drop editor.
A few customers may find it a little tedious to use, and there have been some technical issues reported. Still, the company is continuously trying to improve usability.
If you’re a large company or want a truly 100% unique website, then this website builder may not be for you. If you have the money to hire a professional, it would be preferable to do so.
However, if you are looking for an online presence that gives you plenty of options and a lot of control, then this is the web builder for you.
